Jan. 26: REACH Fund Launch Party (Homeward Bound)
Homeward Bound recently launched an ambitious goal of ending chronic homelessness in Buncombe County. As Western North Carolina grows in popularity, we feel a responsibility to ensure that no one is left outside.
Feb 1: Open Forum – Youth Perspectives (Black Mountain Home For Children)
Youth will share their favorite things about the Home and will also offer suggestions for improvements. This is a wonderful opportunity for youth to have a voice and show off their poise and thoughtful ideas about the ministry.
Feb. 3: Junior League of Asheville Volunteer Expo
Modeled after a job fair, the Volunteer Expo is an opportunity for residents of Western North Carolina to learn about local nonprofits, their volunteer needs, and other ways to support these organizations.
Feb 22: Key Society Donor Reception (Homeward Bound)
Homeward Bound recently launched an ambitious goal of ending chronic homelessness in Buncombe County through the support of real estate professionals, members of associated industries, home buyers and sellers, and businesses community-wide. Local agents agree to donate a portion of each commission.
Feb. 24: Vagina Monologue (Helpmate)
The purpose is to raise funds and awareness for anti-violence groups in our local communities in an effort to end domestic and sexual violence against women. 90% percent of the proceeds from this production will go directly to Helpmate.
Feb. 25: Asheville Lyric Opera Gala
Featuring the world premiere of a new art song by Clint Borzoni and Gavin Dillard and the esteemed vocal talents of Jennifer Bryant Pedersen, Matthew Queen, Will Jones and Barry Pate. The Winter Gala has become recognized for not only the highest of musical quality, but also for the culinary experience.
March 3: Bowl for Kids Sake (Big Brothers/ Big Sisters)
Bowl For Kids’ Sake is Big Brothers Big Sisters’ signature fundraiser. Each year, half a million people across America come together to have fun and raise money to support Big Brothers Big Sisters as we expand what’s possible for youth!
March 8: Elizabeth Smart Event (Our Voice)
Elizabeth Smart is an internationally recognized survivor and a leader supporting all people impacted by sexual violence. Her Asheville address will focus on hope and healing after trauma.
March 9: Scholarship Luncheon (A-B Tech Foundation)
The A-B Tech Office of College Advancement’s Scholarship Luncheon recognizes scholarship recipients and their generous benefactors. Approximately 500 local leaders, business owners, students and community members have the opportunity to hear first-hand from scholarship recipients how the scholarships have impacted their lives.
March 10: Art Affair (OpenDoors of Asheville)
IMAGINE Nation, an elegant celebration of creative collaboration, as we help transform the lives of local students from the experience of “NO” to the unlimited possibility of “KNOW.” Featured artist, Spencer Herr.
March 17: Shamrock 5K/10K/15K (Asheville Catholic School)
The event will be on St. Patrick’s Day this year – Saturday, March 17 – giving everyone a perfect way to celebrate this fun holiday. There will be great food, beer from Asheville Brewing, and a DJ before and after the races. The event will benefit the O’Brien and William Edward Gibbs Memorial Scholarship Fund.
March 20: Seat at the Table Benefit Dinner (Haywood Street Congregation)
At Haywood’s Downtown Welcome Table, cloth tablecloths and napkins, flowers in vases, and the use of real china help counter the notion often held by those living on the streets that ‘handouts, hand-me-downs and leftovers are all I deserve.’ The meal is served family style and folks are invited to linger at the table as in a nice restaurant or dinner at home.
March 22: Lunch of A Lifetime (Eliada Home)
Eliada will offer those committed to the education, healing, and success of children and youth a unique and exciting opportunity to come together for the Lunch of a Lifetime.

This annual 50 mile bike ride is a fundraiser for NCOBS’s Western North Carolina Scholarship Program and is in honor of NCOBS alumni Collier Lilly. The ride offers a beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain route, the 50 mile half century with 3,600 feet of climbing, that will start and end at the NEW Wedge Brewing Company location in Asheville.
