Survey Finds Improvement
in 2003
Fundraising Results
(From The Foundation Center online Newsletter)
According to a new survey from the Association
of Fundraising Professionals (http://www.afpnet.org/),
a majority of nonprofit organizations raised the same amount
or more in 2003 than they did in 2002. In its third annual
State of Fundraising Survey, AFP questioned some three thousand
fundraisers about their organization's fundraising efforts
and found that charitable giving increased for most types
of nonprofit organizations in 2003, with 53 percent of respondents
indicating that their organizations had raised more money
in 2003 than in 2002, 20 percent reporting approximately
the same amount raised, and only 27 percent indicating that
their organizations had raised less. "These figures,
along with the other results in the survey, show a significant
rebound in charitable giving and fundraising in 2003,"
said Paulette V. Maehara, AFP president. "While the
first half of 2003 was very difficult, charitable giving
turned the corner in the middle of the year. Many organizations
enjoyed very good results in the final quarter of 2003."
