AFP International Conference Scholarship Recipient Experience

The AFP International Conference was a great learning experience and tons of fun! I’ve already implemented many of my personal takeaways, such as donor surveys, monthly giving tips, and relationship building techniques, and I hope to implement even more, such as how to make Board meetings more engaging. In addition to the workshops that focused on fundraising skills, I really enjoyed the workshops I took on management and leadership. One of the workshops taught us how to use improv skills to build stronger relationships with donors and coworkers – that one certainly pushed me out of my comfort zone but had some great takeaways!
I would recommend attendance at the AFP International Conference as it is an opportunity to sharpen your skill set, to get that “hoorah, we can do this!” boost that you may need mid-year, and an incredible chance to talk to fundraisers from all over the country about what their doing that’s working, and making a difference, in their shop. AFP WNC Honored As Ten Star Chapter

(Arlington, Va.) – The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Western North Carolina has been named a 2017 Ten Star Chapter.

Every year, AFP, the largest association of professional fundraisers in the world, honors chapters for achieving goals that align with key objectives in its long-range strategic plan. Chapters receive the Ten Star Award for performing specific activities designed to increase professionalism within fundraising and public awareness of the importance of philanthropy. Just one-third of all AFP chapters are named Ten Star Chapters, so the Western North Carolina Chapter is one of a select group of chapters to earn this honor.

Ten Star Chapters are recognized at the AFP International Conference on Fundraising. Chapters also earn the privilege of displaying the Ten Star logo on their website, newsletters and stationary.

“I want to congratulate the Western North Carolina Chapter, which is playing a key role in the Asheville area in promoting ethical and effective fundraising and educating the public about the importance of philanthropy and wise giving,” said Jason Lee, Interim president and CEO of AFP. “Our Ten Star Chapters have demonstrated outstanding programming and leadership for the fundraising, and I’m pleased to recognize their outstanding efforts. If individuals and organizations in the Asheville area have questions about fundraising and philanthropy, they should definitely contact the Western North Carolina Chapter.”

Criteria for the award are determined by AFP International Headquarters. A list of several goals is published annually, and chapters must accomplish 10 of these goals during the year and submit a nomination form for verification to be honored.
